LONGBURN
(From Our Own Correspondent.) LONG BURN, Sept. 1. On Wednesday evening a very pleasant function was hold at the residence of Mr and Mrs R. Tanner, Karoro, the object being to raise funds for the Willard Home. There were about two hundred present, including visitors from Palmerston _ North and surrounding districts. The evening' was spent in dancing, games and competitions interspersed with the following concert items: Song, Mrs McLacldan; tap dance, Miss Judy Christian; song, Miss C. Christian; duet, Mr M. and Miss R. Birch; dialogue, Miss D. Saunders arid Mr 'J’ahor; recitation, Miss lone Christian; song, Mrs Russell. Accompanists were Miss J. Russell, Mr MeLachlan and Mr F. Caple. The music for the dancing was supplied Uy Mr F. Caple, whilst extras were played by Mrs J. Hearsey. Competitions were won as follow: Monle Carlo foxtrot, Miss J. Morley and Mr R. Rowland; lucky spot, Miss ,J. Morley and Mr Johnson. At a suitable juncture, Mrs Watson, on behalf of tho Willard Home, thanked Mr and Mrs Tanner for their great kindness in throwing open their social hall for the evening also all those who had helped to make the gathering such a success. The Willard Homo will benefit considerably by the effort. A dainty supper was handed round by Mrs Tanner and helpers. Mr M. Williamson capably performed the duties of M.C. The evening was brought to a closo with the singing o.f “Auld Lang Syne.” Mr and Mrs McDonald, of Jolmsonvdle,
who have been visiting tho latter’s mother, Mrs Voss, “The Neuk,” have returned homo. Tho friends of Mr A. Barnett will bo pleased to learn that he has completely recovered from injuries received in a collision a few months ago. Mr D. Fraser, of Karero, who recently recovered from a serious illness, ik spending a holiday in Dunedin. Miss Ina Holder, cf Turakina, is the guest of Mrs T. Rowland. The
