HOCKEY TOURNAMENT. END OF SEASON FIXTURE. On Saturday afternoon the Feilding Hockey Association hold its annual end-of-scoson tournament, good entries having been received in both the men's and ladies' sections. Hockey of a high standard was seen, with the Bunnythorpo ladies defeating Hinekoa by a hit beliind for final honours, the men's games ending in a similar fashion after the final played by Tokorangi and Wanderers. Other good cards were brought in by A grade players. Hewetson and Stitchbury returning all square and Williams one down. CONCERT AT WAITUNA. An enjoyable concert was given by members of the Waituna Social Club on Friday night, the ball being well

filled with an appreciative audience. ' A programme of items by tlic club was greatly enjoyed, as were musical and vocal solos by Misses Shepherd, King, Minson, J.' Billman, V. Barltrop (both of Foilding), Mrs Clark, Rev. Mr Bayliss, of Halcombo, Messrs T. Gibson and I). Taylor. A playlet by members of the club in the latter part of the programme was enthusiastically received. An ample supper concluded an enjoyable evening. PLUNKET BALL. The Plunkct Society's ball, held in the Drill Hall on Friday evening, entirely fulfilled the expectations of those who knew the popularity of this annual function, and provided a gay and delightful evening. Bright orchestral music was played and the ball went with a jolly swing throughout. Congratulations must be extended to a most • efficient committee who were responsible for the outstanding success attained. They wore Mesdames V. Lawrence, who wore daffodil satin and georgette; V. J. Stichbury, cherry red lace and coatee of black chenille; It. 11. Buchanan, black georgette and lace, coatee of black brocaded velvet; H. Mawhinnoy, black velvet with coatee of green ribbon silk; W. B. Gray, pale green satin; A. 11. Carter, black georgette, coatee of black velvet trimmed with white fur; C. F. Bailey, reseda green I taffeta and lace; B. Slirimpton, wine red crepe silk; M. McElroy, princess blue lace over satin; also Mesdames C. E. Taylor, F. Mason, It. Carter and the Misses Slrortall, these ladies being unable to be present. The decorative scheme, carried out by Mr limes Jones, was charming and distinctive. Appropriate lettering in gold lit up walls lined with black, hush foliage was cleverly arranged and twinkling lights swung among a canopy of long black and white streamers. A bower of flowers at one end of the hall added a picturesque touch, while a. garden scene, in which the predominating colour was wattle, was arranged on the stage. A stork, carrying a life-size Plunkct baby, was a prominent feature. The slipper was arranged by ladies of the committee and their friends. The tables had been beautifully decorated by .Mesdames A. 0. McCorkindalc, Revington Jones and 11. Carter, with vases of narcissi, small replicas of violets and primulas, largo baskets of Iceland poppies, and small baskets of double mauve primroses and asparagus fern. W.IXF.U. ACTIVITIES. MEETING AT FEILDINQ. The monthly meeting of the "\Yo- J men's Division of the /''armors' Union / was hold on .Friday. Mrs J. WilliamRon, of Taonui, presided, and there I was a large attendance. Apologies for I absence were received from Mesdames . P, R. Simpson and M. I). Colquboun. Resolutions of condolence in their bereavements were passed with Mos-I dames J. Darragh, H. Boatson, Mo-| Yiekers, M. Durie, Penellira and Mr | I. MoLennan. It was reported that ' messages of sympathy had ako been forwarded to Miss Simpson (president of the Marton branch), and Mr Gordon (Tafliapo). Two new members, Mesdames Fairweather (Foilding) anil Anderson (Kiwitoa) were proposed. It was reported that members had made a gratifying response to an appeal for books for those in the back-blocks. The protost meeting called by the Mayoress (Mrs C. E. Taylor) concerning the delay in the erection of the new obstetrical hospital iu Otago had been attended by Mrs Williamson. The Marton branch forwarded an invitation for attendance at the pro- \ vineial meeting there in October. : while the W.C.T.r. sent an inv'ita.- ( tion to the union to be represented a.t . the meeting to be held in St. Paul's , hall. Thanks were conveyed to the division by Mrs L. J. Wild, a vice- j president, for their congratulations • concerning her son's nomination for the Rhodes scholarship. Remits for the Dominion executive meeting were discussed. It was resolved that members assist in the A. and P. Show catering, and that the birthday party should be hold during the second week in October. Subsequently afternoon tea was served.
