BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEET. The monthly meeting of the Board of Governors of the Palmerston. North Boys’ and Girls’ High Schools and the committee of the Technical School was held last night, when Mr J. A. Nash, M.P.. presided. Others present were Mrs M. Aitchison, Messrs T. R. Hodder. J. W. Rutherford. C. Anderson, 0. Monrad and A. J. Graham. The Palmerston North Toe H group made application for the use of a room in the old boys’ hostel in North Street as a meeting''place; it was explained that the group met fortnightly. Mr Murray (the rector) stated that he raised no objection and the use of a room was granted on the same terms as those of the Boy Scouts, who also use a room periodically.

For the last three days of the term the cadet company had been engaged in special training. During the term 20 boys had obtained positions, eight in shops, warehouses or factories, six in commercial or legal office, five on farms and one in the Government service.—Adopted. The principal (Mrs M. Rhodes) of the Girls’ High School reported that the roll number was 236 and the average attendance 215. Electric lighting had been installed and linoleum laid in the kitchen. For the first time candidates from the school entered for Pitman’s shorthand s]>eod certificates, and the following gained certificates, —Marion Donaldson and Gwynneth Whitmore, 100 words per minute; Una Hoskins and Betty Olliyer, 90 words per minute. In connection with the school concert, thanks were due to the many friends who lent costumes, to Mrs Barlow, who acted as accompaniste, to Messrs McLeod and Simms, of the Opera House staff, for donations; to High School hoys who acted as doorkeepers, and to the old girls of the school who gave loyal assistance. — Adopted.
