THE CITY LOAN.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I noticed a paragraph in your journal of tho 12th inst. regarding the Christchurch City Council’s action in raising loans locally, and the success achieved. I also see that our City Council is contemplating another loan. Now, sir, I hope that the new Council will be ruled by commonsense, and see if they cannot do the same here, so that instead of the interest going out of the city it will remain in it, and circulate in our midst instead of being passed on to outsiders. If we do not help ourselves who will ? If it can be done in Christchurch why not Ire re ?—Y ours, etc., A RATEPAYER.
