TAR SEALING.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Would you kindly grant me space in your correspondence columns to draw the attention of our city councillors to the long promised tar-sealing of Waldegrave Street. Are we to suffer another season of dust and grime, wafted by the winds from the above mentioned highway, through the indifference of our city' fathers? What, may I ask, are the chief, factors that sway our councillors to tarseal any one street? If any impartial tribunal, such as a Magistrate’s Court, was permitted to sit in judgment upon the claims put forward by the residents of the different streets, well then, our poor Cinderella would have come into her own long, long ago. But it seems to me, and I am safe in saying that I voice the opinion of all fairminded people, that justice of cause and priority of claim play little or no part in obtaining the verdict in regard to dust freed streets. The long suffering and patient residents have watched and waited season after season for the happy relief that seems further away than ever. _ Yes, they have watched the tar-sealing of streets that may well have w r aited, and waited in vain for some fair-minded member of the Council to demand that fairness be the guiding principle in the allocation of municipal works. I might mention that the prevailing winds blow straight across the street in question, carrying the dust raised by cars right into the house fronts. The traffic, too, is heavier on this street than any other, with the exception of our main highways. In conclusion I may state that the residents of Waldegrave Street sincerely hope that our claim may soon be recognised by the powers that be, for we ask for naught but fair play and no favour.— ■ Your, etc., BITUMEN.
