STOWAWAYS FINED.
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 13. Two young men from Takaka, Nelson. were charged in the Police Court with stowing away on the Marama at Auckland on June 2. Accused were James John Dalton, labourer, aged 22, and Ronald Alva Simmonds, labourer, aged 20. Both pleaded guilty. It was stated tliat the men crossed from Nelson to the North Island and walked from Wellington to Auckland in search of work. They boarded the Marama at Auckland, but were detained in Sydney and sent back to New Zealand. Accused, were convicted and each ordered to pay £5 in restitution of expenses, in default six Peeks’ imprisonment.
