SENT TO GAOL.

Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, June 14. The story of a man who set up in business in Christchurch as Southern Poultry Distributors, Ltd., and secured orders for £3OO and failed in many cases to fulfil the orders for poultry was unfolded before Mr Mosley, S.M., this morning. Accused, John Francis Burno, aged 29, described as a cabi-net-maker, was sentenced to twelve months’ gaol. He pleaded- guilty to seven charges affecting buyers in Kaitangata, Nelson, Reel'ton, Balclutlia, Oamaru, Timaru and Christchurch. The police said that instead of sending pullets to a Coast buyer after accepting orders accused forwarded old liens. He had offered through an advertisement to sell first-class poultry. Orders came from all over New Zealand. He fulfilled some orders, but in other cases just pocketed the money. Burno had been in trouble before in a somewhat similar case.
