FOXTON.
(From Our Own Corresopndent.) . FOXTON, June 12. Mr H. Walden, of Groytown, is at present on a visit to his son, Mr S. I. Walden, of Tfiynne Street. A familiar figure at past meetings of the Foxton races whose absence was commented upon on Saturday was Mr R. Bryant. Many were the hopes expressed for his curly recovery to his usual health. After close on two years’ investigations, during the course of which a consulting engineor was called in, all services dug up and inspected and a new station meter installed at considerable cost to the ratepayers, the Foxton Borough Council is no further ahead in discovering the cause for the monthly loss of something like 25 per cent, of the gas manufactured. At last night’s meeting Cr. D. R. Barron drew attention to the fact that the returns for April showed unaccounted for gas as 24 per cent, of the total manufactured. The loss represented something like £35 a month and the position was serious, especially in view of the fact that all consumers’ meters had been tested and services inspected. After a discussion it was decided that the gas manager be instructed to carry out a test nightly for one week and that he attend the next meeting of the council to offer an explanation for the high percentage of gas unaccounted for and make suggestions for its reduction.
