TRAINING OF TEACHERS

NONE BEFORE 1935. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 9. The Minister of Education, Hon. R. Masters, announced to-day that no further teachers will be trained in the training colleges before 1935. He stated that the number of unemployed teachers, together with the Government Statistician’s estimate that there will be ’ a considerable decrease in the next three or four years in the number of children between the ages of five and fourteen, makes it evident that the present supply of teachers is sufficient for the requirements of the service umtil 1936.

No probationers will be appointed until 1934, but in 1935 a number of students will be admitted to the training colleges.
