RECOVERY OF RATES
BIG CONFERENCE CONTEMPLATED. A UNIFORM ACTION. Per Press Association. AVAIROA, May 9. Arising out of a lengthy discussion by the Harbour Board this morning, when the serious position concerning the outstanding rates was gone into fully, it was decided that a conference of delegates of all the local rating bodies between Woodville and the East Cape be held at AVairoa on June 10 for the purpose of arriving at a uniform lino of action in connection with levying and recovering outstanding rates. , . It was claimed * that the position was liecoming desperate, the movers stating they were sure they would only require to make a move in the matter and tlrey would receive the unanimous support of the local bodies of New Zealand. It is anticipated that the conference will be ’argely attended and a strong case prepared to put before the Government concerning the subject. The board further decided to forward to the Minister of State Advances a list of the rates outstanding on Crown lands, requesting that the amount be credited to the loin account owing by the board to the Department.
