TAIKOREA, May 8. On Wednesday evening last the first of the euchre tournaments to be run in conjunction with the Sports Club was held in the hall. In spite of the inclement weather, a large number of enthusiasts were present, and much interest _ was shown in the games. The prize winners wero: Mrs Locke, of Palmerston North, who tied with Mrs Mora, of Rangiotu, for the ladies’ trophy • Master Gibson Hill securing the men’s prize. Consolation prizes were awarded to Mrs Algar and Mr C. Algar. After a dainty supper had been served, dancing was indulged in until a late hour, music being supplied by local artists. The prizes for the evening were kindly donated by Mr R. Hill. Owing to the weather conditions the weekly football practice had to be postponed. On Thursday evening the weeky ping pong evening was well attended. Arrangements are in hand for - matches with visiting teams. On , Saturday the Taikorea Rugby juniors were defeated by the Awahun juniors in a match played at Kaimatarau, arrangements having been made for junior fixtures for the home ground to bo played there. An interesting game ended in the visitors’ favour, the final score being 14-nil. . , The bad weather experienced during the past week culminated on Sunday night in a heavy hailstorm. Although only lasting a few minutes, the ground was white as after a fall of snow.
Mrs M. Turner, of Stanw&y, is staying with her dauhgter, Mrs Castle. Mr C. Algar his annual- holidays, and is staying .with his parents.
