CYCLE RACING.
Under tire auspices of the Manawatu Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club a cycle road race was held on Saturday afternoon. The course, which was from Rangitikei Street to Awaliuri and back, a distance of approximately 1G miles, presented no big difficulties. A variable wind, however, gave trouble for the major portion of the journey, and taking this factor into consideration the times recorded were creditable, especially ns the season has only just commenced and competitors have not reached top form.
The race was keenly, contested and resulted as follows: —H. Thomas (Gmins.) 1; A. O’Donnell (Binins.) 2; I). Christensen (Gmins.) 3. Also started : H. Proctor (Bmins.); J. Hobbs, M. Shear in (6mins.); H. Eade (Feilding), J. Preston (Foxton), (4£mins.); C. Hyde, H. Rogers (2mins.). The fastest time, 40mins. 25secs., was put up by H. Rogers. The winner’s time was 41mins. 43secs. Only one and a-half lengths separated the first and fifth riders.
