Miss Ware, of Eltham, is the guest of Mr and Airs C. Ware, Woodville. Nurse Hustwick, of the Palmerston North Hospital staff, who has been seriously ill in that institution, is now convalescing at her home in Woodville.

The net proceeds from the concert held in the evening of Anzac Day for the relief of unemployment were £l3 11s. The proceeds of a collection amounted to £ls 2s and the expenses to £1 11s.

On Thursday afternoon the annual primary and secondary school cross country races were held for the Sullivan cups. In the primary event there were 35 starters, the distance being approximately one and a half miles. Following are the placings: J. Crockery (40?ec), 1, time lOmin; A. Sinclair (scr), 2, time, 9min 27sec; H. Stewart (45see), 3. time lOmin 18see: IC. ATcCool (40sec), 4, time, lOmin 24soc. Nineteen starters competed in the secondary school event. Following are the placings: R. Cairns (3min), 1, time, 20min ssec; S. Harvey (2min 50soc), 2. time, 20min, 13 sec; IC. Forbes (3min 15sec), 3, time. 20 min 4(hcc; B. Court (scr), 4; time, 17min 33sec. After the event tlio officials and school. staff were entertained at afternoon tea by the High School girls. A most enjoyable social was held in the Foresters’ Hall in the evening as a wind up to the High School term, and the opportunity was taken to present the senior trophies. In introducing the new chairman of the school committee, Air R. Johnston. ATr Pickering said that there was general regret at Air Turnbull’s retirement, but he felt sure that the new chairman would give excollcnt service. Afr Johnston said Mr Turnbull had been chairman for eighteen years and the service he had given to the school in that period was unique. His place would ’be hard to fill, as would also bo that of Air G. Peebles, another valued member. In presenting the trophies, Mr Sullivan congratulated the boys on their fine performance and the handieappers on achieving so signal a result. Cheers were given for the winners and donors. Numerous competitions and dances were held, the winners of the Alonte Carlo being Air J. D. Baker and Aliss Martin, while Aliss AVest and Air P. Burlace' were the lucky participants in two competitions. A novelty item, which was much appreciated, was a tap dance by Afr J. Brandon. An amusing playette. “Postal Orders,” was staged by the following Forn' TV. girls, ELie Smith. Marjorie Singers, Freda Dalgleish, Zelma Alelntosh and Lexie Aplin. The play was under the direction of Aliss Alartin. Air R. B. Court carried out the duties of AI.C., while the accompaniments were played by Airs R. R. Johnston and Mr T. L. v iner.

The monthly meeting of the Woodville Women’s Institute was held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday. Airs Nixon presided over a very large attendance. Commencing with community pinging and Mrs R. R. Johnston at the piano, everyone was assured of a good afternoon. Alesdames Gallon and Rofe were delegates to the annual meeting held at Feilding and the latter read a full report of the proceedings. One new member was proposed. Airs Holbrook gave a very interesting demonstration on pine needle basket making and had on view some very fine specimens. Afrs Hanlon sang two songs and all joined in the chorus. The competition was for tlio best darned black sock or stocking. Aliss A. Beattie proved the winner, with Airs G. Hartridge second. Afternoon tea was served by Aresdatnes Bruerc, Bryce, Gann. B. Clark, Davidson, Misses A. and J. Beattie and Bailey. Alesdames Vickers and AlcDonald were the hostesses.
