(From Our Own Correspondent.) RANGIOTU, May 5. Tho annual meeting of householders was held in the schoolroom on Monday evening, when thero was a fair attendance of parents. Mr J. A. Shaw, chairman of the retiring committee, presided. The bal-ance-sheet showed a credit of £22 14s 2d. Tho following is the headmistress’s report for the year just ended :—“The year opened with a roll numbering 62, and closed with one t of 48. The decrease is partly duo to the raising of the school entrance age. We lost seven others who passed the final examinations at the end of tho year. The average attendance was 48.3. Tho results of tho Standard VI. examinations were very gratifying, eight candidates gaining proficiency certificates and one competency. The school was visited twice by the inspectors, whose reports were satisfactory as to the tono, educational standards and general surroundings. During the year the school was visited by Inspector Blackie (twice) and Inspector Herrington; Mr Lange, agricultural instructor; Dr. Gunn, medical officer: Messrs Hemingway (chairman), Swangcr (late secretary) and Colonel Whyte (member) of the Education Board, also by the official representative of Dr. Barnardo’s Homes. The boys, combined as usual with Bainesse, competed for tho football trophies, playing matches at Sanson, Oroua Downs and Rongotea. They were the run-ners-up for the cup. A team took part in tho Sanson sports in which several gained points. A strong girls’ basketball team, under tho tuition of Miss Fiest, did well. Friendly games of cricket were played with the Bainesse School. Several swimming lessons were given in the Oroua River, and many of the pupils are making good progress. Small afternoon concerts resultod in the raising of 7s 8d towards the price of a wheelbarrow and £1 5s 7d for the jubilee fund. A gala day was held in connection with the school
jubilee on October 21. The School Committee, augmented by other ladies and gentlemen, worked enthusiastically to make the function long to be remembered in the neighbourhood. A most successful evening social was given to the children at the 'break up’ in December. The annual school picnic was held on February 24 at the Foxton Beach. I-wish to thank
