LONGBURN.

LONGBURN, April 13. The Ladies’ Social Club held its annual meeting on Tuesday last. There waa a fair attendance, and the following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —President, Mrs Birch (re-elected); secretary, Miss Campbell (re-elected); vice-presidents, Mesdnmes Mabey, Lemberg, Brockliss, Hills. Sanson Bowler, Tanner, Mitchell and T. Cooksley. It was decided to recommence the fortnightly euchre and danco gatherings early on May. On Tuesday night the hall was again well filled, when .the “Black Diamond Band'’ gave another successful social and dance. The Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Birch and Mr S. Martin. Extraß were played by Mr M. Creighton and Mr F. Caple. An Easter competition was won by Miss M. Oliver. Prizes for the euchre were won by Mr Heally and Mrs Wright, consolation prizes being awarded Mr Aldorsley and Mrs Mabey. Miss William is the guest of Mrs W. D. Campbell. Misses Jean and Joan Campbell are spending the Easter holidays at Eastbourne, Wellington. Mrs C. Jensen, of Johnsonville, is visiting her mother, Mrs Bowler. - At the recent secondary schools tennis
tournament, 11. Bowler, who won the boys' singles and, associated with Moffat won the boys' doubles, is a member of the local tennis club. He _ has consistently shown improving form this season. and has risen from eighth to fourth position on the club’s tennis ladder. Miss T. Olsen, of Eketahunn, who has been spending a holiday with Mrs G. Syversen, has returned home. The friends of Mr G. Syversen will regret to hear of his illness.
