FERRY STEAMER FIRE.
MAN LOSES LIFE. SYDNEY, April 11. The motor-ferry Daphne caught fire on Sunday night five miles off Newcastle, when bound for Sydney. Three men aboard tried to extinguish the fire, but filially abandoned the task. They constructed a raft, whereon two men were able to keep afloat until picked up this afternoon in the last stages of exhaustion. Tho third man, Mr Edward Hogan, decided to try to swim ashore oil Sunday night, since when he has not been seen.
A NAVIGATION WARNING

WELLINGTON, April 11. The Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department has received the following navigation warning broadcast by Sydney radio to-night: “A fishing launch was burnt and foundered at 9 p.m. on Sunday about five miles south of Seal Rocks, New South Wales. Two survivors were picked up about 3 p.m. on April 11 by s.s. Portfield from a raft. A third member of the crew, with a lifebelt, endeavoured to swim ashore, but Iras not yet been traced. All ships passing the locality., are requested to keej> a look-out.
An additional warning states that the 40-foot launch, abandoned burnt, was last sighted about six miles east of Seal Rocks oti April 10 and is considered a danger to navigation.
