MILSON

(From Our Own Correspondent.) MILSON, April 11. The monthly meeting of tile Milson School Committee was held in the schoolroom last evening, Mr F. G. Murphy presiding. Also present were Messrs Richmond, Hcskins and Franklyn (secretary). The Terrace End School Committee have, during the season just past, made their swimming bath’ available for the use of the .Milson School children, and it was decided to write thanking the committee for their generosity. The matter of obtaining a football for school use was left in the hands of the headmaster. It was resolved to hold the Anzac Day service in the hall, as last year, and, if possible, to secure the services of Major Mewett to give an address. The tender prices submitted by contractors for asphalting portion of the inner area of the school grounds were considered unsuitable, and the work is to be done under the No. 5 unemployment scheme. Accounts amounting to £4 5s 3d were passed for payment. The report of the headmaster (Mr M. R. McEwen) stated that the roll number was still being maintained although the attendance had been affected to some extent by sickneee. The average was, however, well above that required to maintain the present grade. “Sinco my last report, the school has been visited by the senior inspector (Mr Blackie) and also b\’ the health officer. The swimming season is now ended and I wish to thank the Terrace End School Committee, the headmaster (Mr Thompson/), and Mr Arthur for the courtesy extended to us. Miss Spurdle has been absent on two days owing to illness. The teachers' wish to thank the committco for supplying supplementary readers for the pupils. They will prove a great boon. As this will probably he your last meeting prior to the annual meeting, I take this opportunity of thanking the committee for its loyal support and help at all times.” The head prefect wrote acknowledging with thanks the receipt of supplementary readers for the pupils. These hooks were originally purchased by the Education Board, afterwards by subsidy from the board on amounts raised voluntarily, and of late by voluntary subscriptions only. Before closing the meeting, the chairman thanked the members of the committee for their cooperation during the year, and expressed the wish that all would be returned to carry on next year.
