POWER BOARD ECONOMIES.

REDUCTION OF MEMBERS. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL. April 11. An endeavour to have the number of members on the Southland Power Board reduced from 12 to five was made by Mr T. J. Carswell at the monthlv meeting of the board to-day.

Mr Carswell said that last year £440 had been paid out in administrative costs and in the previous year £319 was spent in this direction. Now the board's functions were largely administrative and he was of opinion that the work could be carried out just as efficiently at considerably less expense. After discussion the motion was rejected by six to five.
