The police and the Nazis have systematically combed the Ghetto (the Jewish quarter) in search of amis. A synagogue servico was not molested, but the worshippers were afterwards searched. Those without identification papers were bundled into lorries and. taken to police stations. Few weapons were found. It has been officially ordered that the boycott of- t-he Jews is not to bo resumed to-morrow. GERMAN JOURNALIST SHOT. REFUSAL TO OBEY ORDER. Received April 5, 1.10 p.m. VIENNA, April 4. German armed Nazis crossed the frontier and raided an hotel, where they shot a German newspaperman, Herr Pell, who refused, to return to Germany in their car. Austrian gendarmes confirm the death, hut await police investigations before publishing the details. APPEAL TO THE LEAGUE. POLISH JEWS’ REQUEST. Received April 5, 11.50 a.m. WARSAW, April 4. The executive of the Polish Jewish Unions is appealing to the League of Nations to intervene in the German persecution of the Jews.
DEBATE IN THE COMMONS.
DESIRE OF MEMBERS. Received April 5. 11.25 a.m. LONDON, April 4. Fifty Gentile members of the House of Commons, representing all parties, are petitioning Parliament, seeking representations in connection with the anti-Semitism in Germany. Endeavouring to secure a day’s debate, a Jewish Commoners’ meeting decided to approach the Government. TRACES VANISHING. "CHRISTIANISING” EFFORTS. LONDON, April 4. The Berlin correspondent of The Times states that nearly every trace of the anti-Jewish trade boycott has disappeared, and it is unlikely to be resumed. Meanwhile anti-Semitism is unabated, and the wholesale dismissal of Jews continues. The Nazis are attempting to “Christianise” the Bourse by forcing Jews to resign from it. The Berlin Boxing Association has prohibited Jews’ participation in fights. It has cancelled Jewish managers’ contracts and also suspended foreign managers. ARREST OF BRITONS. EMBASSY’S INVESTIGATION. BERLIN, April 4. The Nazis arrested a journalist, Mr Geoffrey Fraser, a British subject, as an alleged Communist. He was taken from his bed and conveyed to an unknown destination. The police also gaoled another Briton, Mr R. C. Catehpole, international secretary of the Society of Friends. The British Embassy is investigating these cases.
