MR J. A. MOLLISON’S FLIGHT. EASIER THAN NORTH ATLANTIC TRIP. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received February i 0 1.40 p.m. NATAL (Brazil), Feb. 9. Mr J. A. Mollison landed in three days 10 hours from Lympne, breaking the 4J days’ record of The French fliers.
“Well,” smiled Mr Mollison, when he climbed out'of the plane, “that was easier than the North Atlantic flight, hut I had good weather most of the way. She is a sweet little ship,” he said with a fond glance at the plane, Heart’s Content. Mr Mollison was only slightly fatigued as he stepped down from the plane to shake hands with the Provincial Governor, the Mayor and the rest of the reception committee. Thousands were at the field to greet him. Mr Mollison will stay here overnight, proceeding to Rio do Janeiro on Friday.
PREVIOUS FLIGHTS. Previous cast to west flights across the Southern Atlantic were as follow: — March, 1922. —Commanders Cobra! and Coutinho (Portuguese), Lisbon to Brazil. January, 1926. —Commandante Franco and two Spanish companions, Canary Islands to Pernambuco, Brazil. February, 1927.' —-Marches© do Pincdo, Cape Verde Islands to Pernambuco. March, 1927.—Licut-C'olqnol Sarmento Beires (Portuguese), Bissagos Islands (Portuguese West Africa) to Brazil. July, 1928.—Captain Anturo Ferrain and Major’Carlo del Prete, Romo to Brazil. January, 1931. —A number of Italian seaplanes under General Balbo flew across the South Atlantic to Brazil. June, 1931.—The German flying-boat Do.-X from West Africa to Brazil. January, 1933. —Captain Mermoz, with a mow of six, including tho constructor, M. Rene Couzinet, flew from Saint Louis, Senegal, to Natal, Brazil. Captain Mermoz averaged more than 140 miles per hour, sotting a record of 14 hours two minutes for the 1962 mile westward crossing of the South Atlantic.
