FREE PLACES
EXTENSION OF TERMS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. 8. The Minister of Education, Hon. R. Masters, has announced that junior and senior free places are to be extended for the current school year, but that the concession is subject to certain conditions. Provided a pupil who is unable to find employment makes application to the department through the headmaster or principal of his school and satisfies the Director of Education that the case is a bona fide one, junior free place may be extended for an additional year in the case of pupils at secondary schools, technical high and technical day schools and combined schools who have not already held free places for more than two years and who have failed to secure senior free places at the end of 1932. Further. that the senior free places of all pupils in such schools who will have attained the age of nineteen during 1933 may be extended to the end of the year, provided also the parent proves he is unable to provide the necessary fees for tuition after the expiry of the free place.
