AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. Received January 28, 11.10 a.m. MELBOURNE, Jan. 28. At the Australian tennis championships in the quarter-final of the men’s singles, McGrath heat Vines, 6—2,2—6, B—6, 7—5. Vines netted more than usual, but McGrath returned his lightning-like services perfectly. McGrath’s backhand was the deciding factor.

In the semi-final Crawford beat Allison 6—2, 3—6, 3—C, 6—o, 6—3.
