AUSTRALIAN BOYS’ BAND.

ARRANGEMENTS FOR VISIT. A meeting called in order to arrange for billeting, local transport and hospitality for the Australian Boys’ Band, which will visit Paimerston North shortly, under the auspices of the Young Australia League, was held yesterday afternoon, the Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) presiding. Also present were Messrs J. C. Young, F. J. Oakley, R. M. Maunder and K. G. Chamberlain (secretary). The chairman stated that billeting accommodation had been secured for 19 of the 38 boys and three adults who would attend. He hoped for the sake of the city that there would be no difficulty experienced in this connection, for the boys were well behaved and had been specially selected. It had also to be remembered that Australians always put themselves out in the matter of hospitality. “So far we have not got the support the committee would have liked,’’ commented Mr Mansford. , ,

Mr Maunder .expressed the opinion that had the city bands been communicated with they would have done something in this connection; the City Band was still willing to do so. but felt that they should have had more information. Mr Oakley mentioned that the Garrison Band would give assistance, but several bandsmen would be absent at the time of the visit. Mr Young said be had circularised every member of the Rotary Club in the matter of billeting. So far guarantees of £3O bad been made and he was asking Rotarians to guarantee £1 each. It was decided that Mr Young continue to concentrate on these matters. The chairman sa.id he hoped to secure a bus and several motor-cars to take the boys to the Y.M.C.A. camp at Pohangina, and for city transport. It was agreed to approach Mr W. H. Boyce to act as transport officer during the boys’ stay. It was decided to approach the Mayor of Feilding, requesting permission to have the band pay a visit there.
