UNEMPLOYED RELIEF

WORKS IN PROGRESS. It was reported to the Palmerston North City Council Inst evening by the

engineer (Mr .7. R. Hughes) that the following works were in progress under the No. 5 scheme:—(a) Road widening in Vogel Street; (b) lowering crown of road and re-grading Main Street, south side of the railway line, between Albert Street and Victoria Avenue; (c) lower-

ing crown of road and re-grading North Street; (d) cleaning up streets and lawns in Union, Marne, Ada, Ranfurly, Rolleston and Ashley Streets; (e) formation of footpath (Clelland Street). The following works had been completed:—Kawau branch drain deviation, section 178; formation of new street

through reserves, from Kifzherhcrt Avenue to Jickell Street; enlarging culvert, Rongopai Street. at Kawau branch drain; levelling and grading at Takaro Park; kerb and channelling Albert Street; erection of additions to kitchen (camping ground).
