THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. A slight depression has been crossing New Zealand, while an anti-cyclone is crossing the South Tasman Sea; disturbed conditions with rather low pressure prevail in the tropics generally. Winds light to fresh and variable ; southerlies prevailing over the South Island; northerlies at first over the North Island, but changing later to southerlies. Seas rather rough about Cook Strait; elsewhere moderate in New Zealand waters. Moderate to fresh north-east to south-east winds in the eastern Tasman Sea and moderate seas. Weather still fine and mild at most places, but some isolated local showers possible inland in the South Island. DISTRICT REPORT. SOUTH-EASTERLY WINDS.
The Government meteorologist telegraphed to-day : —The indications are for south-easterly, moderate winds prevailing. There is a prospect of fair to cloudy weather. The barometer shows little movement. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —lft 3ins.
