BUNNYTHORPE

SCHOOL CEREMONY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) BUNNYTHORPE, Dec. 16.' The Parents’ Day and breaking-up ceremony of the Bunnythorpo School took placo on Thursday. The day being ideal, a very large gathering of parents and scholars spent an enjoyable outing. In the morning the school was thrown open to the parents, who viewed the work carried out by the scholars in the different standards with much interest. All the work was displayed to advantage and the staff explained the method of carrying out each phase. The teachers, Mr Abraham (head master), Miss Jones (infant mistress) and Mbs Fizelle (assistant teacher), are to bo complimented on the results of their efforts. At mid-day an adjournment was niado to the Recreation Ground, where the parents providod an abundance of good things. The committeemen and their wives, with tho teaching staff, left nothing to bo desirod on proriding for the wants of a happy gathering, ■ihortly after luncheon Mr J. Uinklatcr, VI.P., arrived to present the prizes. Mr A. J’Donnell, chairman of the School Committee, voiced their thanks to Mr Linkater who had many calls to fulfill. B ■ore calling on him to present tho prizes, he congratulated Mr Abraham and his assistants on their work; the result of the proficiency examinations spoke volumes for their work. He congratulated tho scholars on their progress and wished tho 6taff and tho scholars tho season’s greetings. Mr Linklater then presented the prizes. He thanked the committee for their invitation to be present and congratulated the staff and the scholars on their wonderful success of tho past year. Speaking of tho school and the grounds, which bo had just had the pleasure of viewing, be thought it was a great credit to tho School Committee and the district. He referred to the scholars and those about to go to higher education, and asked them to give of their best. Many parents had made sacrifices in order to give their children the best of education. Gore and N. Gunn 1, T. Beagley and I. Fowler and R. Hyde and M. Donald (tie) 2. Herbert Smith Trust tennis cups (won last season, with miniature to bo retained by winner): —Girls: J. Sinclair; boys, N. Mitchell. Calf Club competitions: N. Cheotham (Mr J. O’Donnell’s prize for typo and Mr J. Robertson’s prize for condition); second in both type and condition classes: Miss A. O’Donnell. Misses Scheidt’s special prizes for various work were presented as follow: Needlework, seniors: H. Fowler; middle division, B. Gee; juniors, H. Dittmor. Handwork, seniors: R. Hyde; middle division, E. Abraham; juniors, P. Coker, The Faulkner Cup won at the athletic sports last year was presented to the school, Leila” Powell, the oldest member of tho competing team, taking possession. The Dux medal is presented annually by Bunnythorpo Stores, Ltd., and the first and second prizes of standard 6 were presented by Mr G. H. Bennett. Cheers were given to the staff, Mr Abraham. Miss Jones and Miss Frizelle, also to Mr Linklater.

A sports programme was then conducted by tho committee, which brought to the close of one of the best and most successful gathering in connection with tI»P Bunnythorpo School. Much of its success was due to tho good work done by the wives of the committee and other Indies of the district in attending and providing refreshments.
