MILSON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) MILSON, Dec. 16. Mr E. Lcthley, of Cambridge Street, has left for Hastings to take up his now duties, consequent on his transfer by tho Railways Board. Prior to his departure, many of his friends congregated at his residence and wore entertained to a jolly social evening. In the early part of the evening, card games were played, devotees of ertbbage and bridge making up a fair number of tables. At a suitable juncture, Mr J. O'Connor, on behalf of the visitors, voiced regret at tho impending departure of Mr and Mrs Lcathley, and wished them every success in their new homo. Mr Leathley would be greatly missed ho said, not only amongst his many frionds in Milson, but also in the local railway sporting circles. Mr Lcthley expressed regret at having to sever his connections in Milson, and stated that the congenial associations in this district would always be a pleasant memory. He concluded by extending a cordial invitation to all to call on him in Hastings when. passing through. A musical programme followed, Mr Carey playing several piano selections, and also acting as accompanist. Songs were contributed by Messrs Toon, Carey and Baird, each soloist receiving full support in the refrains. A very enjoyable supper was served and the evening concluded at midnight, the departing guests reiterating thpir good wishes. The Milson scholars who sat for the recent proficiency examinations did credit to their teachers, all passing the test and nine of the 12 securing tho coveted certificate. Those who secured proficiency certificates were: Doreen Hoskins, Joy Thomson. Hope Thompson, Leonard Bartlett, Brevnton Campbell Jack, Mansfield, Charlie Potts, Robert Rowan and Jack Toon. , Certificates of competency were awarded to Rita Rowan, June McKenzie, and Lyndsay McKenzie. Mr M. Casserloy, of Hastings, has settled in Milson and commence? duty at the Palmerston North railway locomotive sheds this week.
