LONGBURN.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) LONGBUItX, Dee. 16. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held in the hall on Wednesday afternoon, and was presided over by Airs Lemberg. Thero was a good attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Aiesdames Sansom, Kensington and Best and Aliss V. Zurcher. During the afternoon Airs Will, of ltongotea, gave a very interesting demonstration of cake icing. The competition w'as for the best article suitable for a Christmas present. All three prizes wore tied for, Alisses Ai. Bell and B. Zurcher being first, Airs T. Rowland and Miss V. Zurcher second, and Aiesdames Kinnimont and Foss third. The hostesses for the afternoon were Aiesdames Uemberg and Jordan and Aliss B. Zurcher. A hearty voto of thanks was accorded Airs Will for her demonstration.

On Saturday afternoou the Church of England annual Sunday School party was held in the church room. Miss J. Campbell, the superintendent, was in charge of the arrangements. After tea, Father Christmas arrived and distributed the toys from the Christmas tree. Community singing, items and games occupied the rest of the evening. Rev. C. Hyde and Rev. Mr Ball, of Palmerston North, woro present and did much towards making the party a success. The friends of Mrs R. Tanner, of Karere, will bo pcased to learn that she lias sufficiently recovered to bo enabled to leave hospital. Mrs J. P. Callesen has returned home after undergoing a slight operation in a private hospital in Palmerston North. Mrs £>. Vowles, of Wellington, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs R. Tanner. Mrs Adams, of Wellington, is tho guest of her sister, Mrs D. Fabling. Miss P. Wicks, of Waimihai, is also staying with Mrs Fabling.
