WEST END SCHOOL.

END OF THE YEAR. There was a pleasant ceremony at the West End School this morning, when a breaking-up gathering was held At 10.30 o’clock the staff entertained Mr A. Penketh (chairman of the School Committee) and Airs Penketh, also Air A. Al. Stevenson, the caretaker. The opportunity was taken to farewell Aliss F. AlcConnon, who has been on tho staff for the past two years. Air H. W. Jackson, the headmaster, in a speech eulogising her fine services as a teacher, presented Miss AlcConnon with a box. of handkerchiefs as a token of goodwill. Oil behalf of the staff, he also made Air Stevenson a small presentation in appreciation of his continuous Help, in many spheres of the school’s activities. Both recipients responded. The pupils were then assembled and addressed. Air Jackson spoke of the good work which had been accomplished during the year and wished the children a happy Christmas season. To those who were leaving he extended best wishes. Air Penketh spoke appreciatively of the work which Air Jackson and his staff had accomplished. He congratulated the pupils on their success and urged those who were leaving to remember that they were AVest End School pupils and live up to the school’s traditions. Airs Penketh then presented old pupils’ cups for sports championships to Thelma Pye and Len Kilgour. She also presented each member of the relay team, which secured second place at the Royal Show inter-scliool sports, with a framed photograph of the team. Tweeddale, J. Sexton, A. Moore, N. Paddy, D. Cuneen, J. Cudby, E. Humphries, A. Trow, H. Trow, G. Cassey, J. Allen, A. Anderson, K. Boyd, A. Graham, L. AlcEwen, M. Oliver, AV. Philpott, R.
