TOAVN v. COUNTRY. Per Press Association. AVELLINGTON, Dec. 14. Tire annua" Town v. Country cricket match was continued at the Basin Reserve this afternoon in fine weather. The ground and wicket are in good order. YV. Norris, the Country captain, with Mete Kingi ran tho score along to 162, - where the Wanganui player was howled by a faster one from Morris. A. Newman, tho tall Nelson representative, then partnered his captain, and the pair gave the Town players some active exercise before the next wicket fell. N. Gallichan, one of tlie best batsmen on the Country side, had no luck, as ho was snapped up by Blandford behind the sticks first hall he received. After the seventh wicket had added 43, Norris’s bright innings came to an end for 57. The Country captain exploited the hook shot cleverly, and most of his six boundaries came from this stroke
AV. Hayward, who had reached 82, was bowled by Griffiths. The Rangitikei colt showed confidence and resource throughout, hitting nine fours. H. M. Nairn, a Hawke’s Bay colt, lent Freeman, valuable aid in putting on 36 runs for the last wicket. AVith the total at 435, Nairn, who had scored 15, was caught by Morris off Browne, and tilie Country team’s innings came to an end at 5.35 for the splendid total of 435. There was perfect weather and a splendid wicket for the continuation' of the Town and Country cricket match, but the Town did very badly against the bowling of J. Newman and A. Newman, four wickets being down for 50. After .Dempster joined Blandford the Town made a stand and the score was carried to 104, when Blandford went, caught by Galliclian. off Newman for 41.
