PAHIATUA, Dec. 14. Mrs A. M. Fortcrscuc-Seyinour, of Hinemoa (Kaitawa) has been visiting Wellington. She was one of the guests at the ViccRcgal garden party on Thursday last. Mro W. Purcell, St. John’s Hill, Wanganui, is the guest of Mrs J. T. Lea, Main Street. Miss Whitmore Searle, who has been spending this year in Christchurch, has returned to Hu kail ui. Misti V. Woolridge, who has been on an extended visit to the Old Country, returned to Pahiatua yesterday.

The let Pahiatua Company of Girl Guides entertained the Ist Pahiatua (St. Peter’s) Company of Pov Scouts at a *party on Friday evening last. At the December gathering of the Women’s Institute as each member entered the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Sunday Schoolroom dho deposited her contribution to the Christmas hamper for the Porirua Mental Hospital on a table and was welcomed by the door hostcisd. Miss McKonny. Members of the committee hail arranged and had charge of several competitions which created plenty of fun, the winners of the various events being: Bean board, Mrs Staples; ninepins. Mrs Wallens; spooning marbles. Sister Ellis 1 and Mrs Lister 2; musical parcel, Mrs L. T. Herbert; completed pictures, Mrs Staples Music played its part in the success of the afternoon. There were two delightful violin solos by Mm Clarke and a vocal item by Mm Dudson, the accompaniote for both members being Mrs Eilers.

Referring to the visit of Their Excellencies, Lord and and the Lady Bledisloe, to Pahiatua on Friday, January 27, the Mayor, Mr J. D. Wilson, stated at the monthly meeting of the Pahiatua Borough CiJuncil that. Their Excellencies would reach Pahiatua from Eketahuna at noon and wore prepared to meet as many citizens as possible from noon to 1 p.m. The Mayor suggested that an official leception be accorded Lord Bledisloe at the Borough Council Chambers when local body officials could be introduced. A public welcome and the Governor’s reply could be taken in the Memorial Square if fine, or in the Drill Hall or theatre if wet. A committee comprising the Mayor. Crs A. Donald, S. Siddells and tlie town clerk, Mr D. liOvclock, was formed to make final arrangements as to the form of the reception. At the bi-monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Presbytery, held in Masterton on Tuesday, December 13. Rev. J. Davie stated that Mr K. L. Warren, M.A., had been supplying the charge with acceptance. The Home Mission Committee had agreed to the appointment of Mr Warren for three years, and had agreed to make a grant of £35 for the first year to help toward a stipend of £275. The Presbytery approved of this, and arrangements were made for the ordination and induction of Mr Warren on Thursday. December 22, the Moderator of Presbytery, Rev. G. W. Blair, to preside, ordain and induct. Rev. J. Davie to address the minister, and Rev. A. Hardie the congregation. On the motion of Rev. J. Davie. Rev. W. H. Howes, 8.A., of Otautau, and a former minister of Carterton, was nominated as Moderator of the General Assembly, 1933-34.

A meeting of the executive of the Pahiatua Swimming Club was held last evening, when Mr J. A. Walsh, presided. The president reported that as a result of the deputation’s interview with the Borough Council on Monday evening a subsidy of £lO had been granted the club. Throe applications were received for the position of caretaker. It was resolved that Mr J.

C Richardson he appointed. The president made reference to the late caretakei, who was not an applicant foi‘ the position. Mr Walsh said that Mr Douglas was full of energy and enthusiasm and had the interests of the club at heart. Mr Walsh’s remarks were endorsed and a lesolution was carried to the effect that it be placed on record the club’s appreciation ot Mr Douglas's services.

The weather being fine to-day there was a -targe attendance of members of the Tennis Club anti Bowling Club to-day. The Bowling Club’s green was particularly busy, there being six rinks from the Woodville Club present, also one rink from the Oroua Club, the rinks from the first named being on a friendly visit, whilst the Oroua Club rink wore in quest of the much coveted Takaro Cup. The Oroua Club s representatives were beaten by the narrow margin of one point, the scores being 17—16 in favour of Pahiatua. There was also a match for the Gosling Star*, held by Pahiatua, the challengers being Woodv'iUc The holders had a runaway victory to the tune of 22 to 8. The following are the results of matches played:—Takaro Cup: Pahiatua (Murphy. Peterson. W. Britland, Kershaw, skip) 17 y. Oroua (Brewer, Andrews, McLean, Atkin, skip) 16. Gosling Stars: Pahiatua ( Pilkington, Mills Baxter, Petherick, skip) 22 v. Woodville ’ (South, Henderson, McCormick, Horne, skip) 8. Friendly games, the names of the skips only being given, Woodville being mentioned first : Aim 13 v. Peterson 24, Curry 18 v. F. Britland 10, Mules 13 v.’ P. Bissct 18. Grinlinton 13 v. McCawe 23, Bly 16 v. W. Britland 12. Aggregate:, Woodville 73, Pahiatua 87. At the meeting of the Foresters’ Lodge, Court Pahiatua, held this week, there was a good attendance of members. The C.R., Bro. R. L. Parker presided. Several accounts were passed for payment. Bro. J. O’Brien was installed C.R. for the ensuing term by P.C.R. Bro. R. Parker, assisted by P.C.R. Bro. G. lanvton. The newly installed C.R. then installed the minor officers.
