ASHHURST.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) ASHHURST, Dec. 14. There was a good attendance of members nt the monthly meeting of tho Ashhurst Women’s Institute, on Tuesday, tho chair being occupied by tho president, Mrs Fenwick. Apologies wore received from Mesdames Bleakley, Horsnell, and Peek, and Misses Durham, Fenwick and Read. A welcome was extended by thq president to all those present, including four new members. A competition for the most iiseful article for a Christmas present costing not more than Is. 6d brought forth a large number of entries, the judging being done by Miss Sixtus and the winners being Dll's Hydman 1, Dlrs Havell 2, and Dlrs Kclsall 3. A fair amount of business was done at the trading stall. A roll-call entitled “An Amusing Story or Child’s Funny Saying” caused much amusement. Arrangements were made for a picnic to bo hold in January instead of the usual meeting, and a sub-committee was appointed to make the final arrangements. A pleasing item was a pianoforte duet by Dlissos Trass and Leamy. A very interesting and instructive demonstration on cake decorating was given by Miss Sixtus. The cake, having been donated by Dlrs Trass, was afterwards competed for, being won by Dlrs Maul. Votes of thanks were accorded Dlisses Sixtus, Mrs Trass, the hostesses, and stall-holders, and all wlio had helped to make tho afternoon a success. The president took the opportunity of wishing the members the season’s greetings, and the meeting closed with the National Anthem.
