LINTON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) LINTON, Doc. 14. A successful children’s fancy dress ball was held last Friday evening, when the Linton Hall was filled to capacity with gaily-costumed children and their parents and friends. Tho hall was prettily decorated with multi-coloured streamers and the music for tile children’s dances was supplied by Miss Blake, Mr L. Wilson (violin) and Mr J. Collis (cornet). The 'danco programme consisted mainly of folk dances taught by Mr Rankin (acting-headmaster) attiistod by Miss Blake. These were all very effective and were as follow: Pop Goes tho Weasel, Cochin China, French Reel, Gathering peas-cods, Reap the Flax, 1 Sec You, Shoemaker’s Dance, If All the World were Paper, Norwegian Mountain March, Maori Canoe, Confetti Waltz, and Lucky Spot Waltz (won by Gloria Mcßrcarty and Kevin Beckett). Gaines of musical arms were won by Royce Tucker and Harold Mcßrearty. Tho Polonnaise which took tho place of tho grand march concluded the children’s dance programme, and tho children then adjourned to be served with a dainty supper arranged by tho School Committee and their wives. After supper tho dancing was carried on by the adults till the small hours of tho morning, the music being provided by Messrs R. Brill, W. Greer, L. Wilson and J. Collis, the latter also performing the dutios of M.C. Mr R. Mcßrearty, chairman of the School Commitete, toward the close of the evening, on behalf of the committee, congratulated Mr Rankin and Miss Blake and the children on their efforts. Page Boys; Kevin Beckett, Ali Baba; and Desmond Beckott, Kewpie: Tho Linton School tennis team spent a very pleasant afternoon at Tokomaru on Tuesday when a friendly match was played, resulting in a win for tho visiting team. The games were as follow, the Linton players being mentioned first:—Boy’s singles: H Aldrich beat E. Atkinson 30—11, S. Moves beat C. Todd 30—15, R. Gooch beat D Redshaw 30—14, G.
