MID-WEEK CRICKET

THREE MATCHES PLA’YED. GOOD BATTING SEEN. Although there was a fairly strong wind in evidence ; mid-week players in the Manawatu cricket competitions had excellent wickets at their command yesterday and the day was productive of some excellent scoring, Brace, of P.D.G., knocking up 88; Thompson, of Optimists, 76, and Miller, of the same club, 64. Another to top the half century was Hooker, of the P.D.C., while Wilde, of the Combined Services B team, compiled a useful 43. A DRAWN GAME. Occupying a wicket on the oval, the P.D.C. versus Combined Services match ended in a draw, although the honours were with the former' eleven. P.D.C. amassed a total of 212 for the loss of seven wickets, at which stage they declared thfcir innings closed. The first seven batsmen for Combined Services all returned double figure scores, but when play ceased they were still 33 runs in arrears with two wickets to fall. At their first visit to the batting crease Combined Services made 119. U.S.C. replied with 84, and tho opposition commenced their second innings holding an advantage of 35 runs. With the total standing at 71 for the loss of three wickets Services declared their second innings closed, but time prevented a decision on the second innings .being arrived at, U.S.C. having lost I five wickets for 29 runs when stumps were drawn. Per Press Association. HASTINGS, Dec. 14. A draw was the result of the annual cricket match between the Napier and Palmerston North High Schools to-day. The local side’s first innings produced only 193 and when they followed on "they played out time to avert defeat.
