GLEN OROUA

(From Our Own Correspondent.) GLEN OROUA, Dec. 13. The monthly meeting of the School Committee was hold on Friday night, when there were present Messrs W. A. Boswell (chairman), AV. C. Scott (secretary), P. Farland, J. Herdman, J. F. Nolan .and S. G Parlano (head teacher). Correspondence was received from tho secretary of the School Committees’ Federation, Wellington, thanking the local committee for their support and returning, for the present, the amount of subscription forwarded. The F.ducation Board forwarded the amount of capitation allowance due for the present term. The head teacher repoited that £l2 11s 9d had been collected bv pupils for tho picnic and prizo fund. The parents and others were deserving of thanks for their splendid response, and tho amount, with a few small sums yet to como in, exceeded that of last year. Tho head teacher was authorised to expend up to £lO on reward books for the pupils, the balance to be utilised for tho picnic to be held in February. Tho head teacher stated that the Standard VI. proficiency examination had been held on December 5 at tho Rongotea centre. Tho annual examinations for classes below Standard VI. had also been completed, with very satisfactory results. The pupils were now busy, under tho instruction of Miss Phillips, preparing for the breaking-up concert on the afternoon of Friday. The teachers had decided this year to hold an exhibition of school work at the hall on “break-up” aftornoon, to give parents and past pupils an idea of tho varied activities of school life at prosent. Tho pupils had been exceptionally busy preparing the exhibits, and it was hoped that parents would take advantage of tho opportunity given. The committeo decided to award certificates to tho first and second prize-winners in the condition and typo _ classes of tho local calf-rearing competition. Several accounts, amounting to £5 17s 6d, were passed for payment. The judging of the Rongotea group of tho calf-rearing competition was carried out at the Rongotea School grounds on Monday afternoon, Glen Oroua competitors gaining places being Bill Scott and Charlio Wobb. The former gained second placo for condition with his entry and third for typo, while the latter gained third and fourth in tho same classes. Mr W. L. Combs, of the locnl Post Office staff, returned to duty to-day after his annual leave, and Mr J. McKenzio, who has been relieving, left for Palmerston North.
