CRICKET.
HIGH SCHOOLS AT PLAY. NAPIER AND PALMERSTON NORTH. NAPIER, Dec. 14. The annual cricket match between the first elevens of the Napier Boys’ High School and the Palmerston North High School commenced at Nelson Park, Napier, yesterday morning, and will conclude this evening. At stumps yesterday afternoon the visitors, who batted first, closed their innings for the satisfactory total of 449, time not permitting Napier to commence their replying innings. Two brilliant batting performances were given by Fletcher and Ongley, the former scoring 144 (22 fours) and the latter 107 (19 fours). The wicket was soft and easy, being of little assistance to the local bowlers, the most successful of whom were Youngliusband, Amitage and Mahony, each capturing three wickets. Batting this morning, Napier had lost 6 wickets for 154 runs at the luncheon adjournment. The following are tho detailed scores:— PALMERSTON NORTH. First Innings. HAWERA, Dec. 13. In tho inter-school cricket match between Fcikling Agricultural Higli School and Hawera, Hawera made 120 and 7 for 84 (declared) —Williams 7 for 18 and 5 for 23. Feilding High School made 101 (Burgess 43 and Hart 17), and lost one wicket for 37 (J. Huston, not out, 25).
