SUDDEN DEATH.

MR V. T. DIBBLE. FOUND DEAD AT RACECOURSE. There was a tragic occurrence at the Awapuni racecourse this morning, the body of Mr Victor Thomas Dibble, secretary of the Manawatu Racing Club, being found under some trees near the grandstand. About half-past eight o’clock Mr Andrews, one of the caretakers of the course, saw Mr Dibble driving on to the course in his motor car. A little later Mr B. J. Jacobs was on the course and he and Mr Andrews looked round for Mr Dibble. They found that the.car had been driven under the trees past the main stand and after a short time the tragic discovery was made. Death had apparently resulted from a revolver shot, the bullet having entered the chest and gone right through the body. A five-chambered breech loading revolver was found near the body. Mr Dibble had been in indifferent ill-health for some time past. A little over two years ago MiDibble, who had been assistant secretary of the Auckland Racing Club, came to Palmerston North to take over the duties of secretary of the Manawatu Racing Club, succeeding the late Mr J. M. Johnston. He had also taken an active part in many local matters, being chairman of the Citizens’ Committee that carried out much good work in connection with the Winter and Royal Shows. He was also an enthusiastic member of the Rotary Club and was secretary until his resignation a short time ag Mr Dibble was secretary of the local branch of the Red Cross Society, and a function that had been arranged for this evening has in consequence of his death been postponed. The deceased gentleman, who saw service during the Great War and was severely wounded, was a married man, and deep sympathy will be felt for Mrs Dibble in her bereavement.
