WOODVILLE.
WOODYILLE, Dec. 12. A delightful presentation of the cantata, “David, the Shopherd Boy,” was given by St. David’s choir, with the assistance of other local talent, in tho Presbytefian Church. There was a representative attendance of music lovers and the interpretation was of a particularly high quality. Alany solos were given, the baton being capably controlled by Air J. Elder. Those in solo parts included Alesdames' Hume, soprano; R. Jones, contralto; R. L. James, mezzo-soprano; Aliss Strand, contralto, and Alessrs C. Forbes, bass; I'. H. Williams, tenor; F. Graham, tenor; J. Charles, bass; and K. Strand, I 'tenor. At the conclusion of the performance, Air D. AlcGregor addressed a few 'words of thanks on behalf of the church. Although no largo baskets have been reported to have been taken of late out of local rivers, one or, two fishermen have returned home with successful catches. It is reported that the rivers have been in excellent fishing order during the past month, although' the wind of late made fishing impossible. The brown trout killed are in excellent condition, and the anglers speak well of the good sport that is offering with the rod.
Tho monthly meeting of the W’oodville branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Parish Hall, Airs J. Halpin presiding over a goed attendance of members. Apologies were received from Alesdames R. G. Smith, Curry, Grinlinton and Graham. Several matters of importance to the branch were discussed. The homo science project as outlined by Afiss AlcAlillan was considered and members are to have the opiiortunity later of perusing all the propaganda issued by Aliss AlcAlillan, and dealing with all the different subjects. Alesdames Graham and AlcGregor were appointed members of the advisory board to the Bush Nurse and Housekeepers’ Auxiliary. A “bring and buy” stall was in tho charge of Alesdames AlcNeil and Jones, and did good business. Mrs AlcPeak delighted the members with her singing, having to respond to encores. It was decided to sing the National Anthem before each meeting. A garden party was arranged for January 11, Airs Graham very kindly offering her home for the occasion. A Christmas and New Year message from the Dominion president, Airs C. C. Jackson, was read to the meeting. A feature of the afternoon’s programme was a demonstration by Aliss J. Beattie on cake icing. Alembers were keenly interested and a special vote of thanks was accorded Aliss Beattie by Airs AlcGregor and carried by aeclamtion. A dainty afternoon tea, presided over by Airs Hume, was greatly enjoyed by all. Thanks to all who helped or contributed in any way brought the meeting to a close.
