NAVAL RETIRED LIST.
KING’S SECOND COUSIN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Dee. 11. The Admiralty announces that Commander the Marquess of Milford Haven has been placed on the retired list at his own request. He is second cousin to the King and is 40 years of age. Goorgo Louis Mountbntten, second Marquess of Milford Haven, is a great-grandson of the Into Queen Victoria. His father was Prineo Louis of Battenbcrg, who booamo a British subject, and, entering the Navy, readied admiral’s rank and was First Sea Lord on the outbreak of the world war. Prince Louis married a daughter of Princess Alice, Queen Victoria’s second daughter. Dropping his German title in 1917, ho was made first Marquess of Milford _ ITaven, and the family namo was anglicised as Mountbntten. At 13 years of ago the son joined the Navy, and as a lieutenant in the battle-cruiser New Zealand was in the chief engagements in tho North Sea durin" tho war. For hie services ho received the K.C.V.0., tho Russian Order of St. Vladimir and tho Italian Order of Savoy. On his father’s death in 1921 ho succeeded to tho title-
