THE GREEDY GOBLIN.

He lived in a hole in the topmost branch on the topmost tree on Goblin Hill. Nobody loved him, for lie was the greediest goblin that ever lived. Christmas was drawing near, and this goblin was busy making his Christmas pudding, but instead of looking forward to eating his good things with a merry party of friends around him, he kept on thinking to himself, “I will keep it all to myself!

Nobody shall have one wee bit!” Oh! he was a greedy goblin! At last the great day arrived, and as ho dished up his pudding, his greedy, eyes glistened. The pudding rolled out of the saucepan, dropped on 'to the dish and rolled round and round with a queer clatter. The goblin tried to cut it, but, alas! the pudding was so hard that it jumped from under the knife, crashed through the window and rolled away down the snowy hillside. The goblin ran after it, but, tripping over the doorstep, he fell and rolled down the hill after his pudding. As they rolled they collected

the.snow, and by the time they reached the bottom of the hill they were two huge snowballs. The goblin folk, who had all _ run out, crowded round crying: “Which is the pudding? Which is the goblin ?” | Then they all climbed and jumped I upon the two snowballs until the snow fell away, and a crushed and bruised goblin crept out, looking such a sad little creature that Mrs Goody Goblin invited him to her Christmas party.
