The death is announced at Warri, Nigeria, of Chief Dore Numa at the age of 70. When Vice-Consul Phillips proposed to set out on his illfated mission to Benin City Dore Numa warned him of the danger of the enterprise. Failing to dissuade Mr Phillips from going on the Chief insisted on going with him, and made great efforts to save the British party when they were attacked. The Chief continued to aid the British and was awarded many medals and clasps, including the King’s modal for African chiefs.
