YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. A further weakening in prices was the chief feature of the stock and share market 'yesterday. Apart from a mild flutter in Government securities at very low rates there was very little buying demand. Selling pressure was evident from the longthy list of offers made in many cuses at cut rates. In Government securities the 4£ per cent., 1939 and 1938, were bid for at the low price of £92 10s, following a sale late on Saturday of the 1938 stocks at £92 17s 6d. Tlic 5k per cent, bonds, 1937, were wanted at £95 ss, and the stocks at £95. There was a bid of £97 10s for the 5£ per cent, stocks, September, 1937, Wellington City, 5$ per cont., 1940, were wanted at £97. Banks wore again extromely dull, with, however, little or no quotable change in values. There were three sales of New Zealand at 425, ex dividend. Late buyers were in at 41s 9d, holders asking 42s 6d. The only inquiry in the financial and pastoral section was for New Zealand Guarantee Corporations, which were weak, at 4s 3d. Seilers of N.Z. Loan and Mercantile reduced their price another £1 to £sl. Wellington Gas shares were steady at late rates. Following the announcement of the passing of a final dividend sellers of Goar Meats weakened 2s 6d to 275. Last week there was a Bale at 295, and a few weeks ago there were sales at 31s 9d and 31s. N.Z. Refrigerating, £1 paid, were bid for at 9s, and the 10s paid at 2s lOd. There were buyers of Westport Coals at 10s. The passing of tho dividend sent Kauri Timbers down, to 9s, as against sales a month ago at 12s 6d. There wero buyers on Saturday utf 11s. N.Z. Breweries had a sale late oa Saturday at 25s sd. Buyers yesterday offered 25s 3d, sellers asking 26s 6d. Colonial Sugars were 5s down at £46. Shf.rlands preference were firm at 17s 6d, no sellers. Woodworths (N.Z.) preference were steady at 27s 6d, and there was an inquiry for the ordinaries at 60s. Mining shares wero quiet, and inclined to ease. Waihis weakened to 18s sd, sellers 19s, as against sales late last week at 19s 2d. King Solomons wore slow at 2s 3d, and Paddy’s Point and Nokomai easier at 4s 9d and 5s lOd respectively.
