THE WEATHER
A deep depression, with its centre off the south-west coast, was moving on to New Zealand yesterday afternoon. Pressure has risen rapidly in southeastern Australia. Strong north-west to northerly wind to gale, but a change to southerlies. Seas rough generally in New Zealand waters. Winds backing to strong southerlies and seas rough in the Eastern Tasman Sea. Weather unsettled ; general rain probable, with many heavy falls; temperatures warm, but colder to-day. Thunder in places and snow on the ranges.
DISTRICT REPORT,
The Government meteorologist telegraphed to-day : -—The indications are for westerly winds, strong to gale and backing by west to south. The weather will probably prove squally and changeable. The barometer will be rising soon.
