OROUA LODGE OF DRUIDS
The regular fortnightly meeting of the Oroua Lodge of Druids was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Cuba (Street, on Tuesday evening, A.D. Bro. Gold presiding over a very large attendance of members. Grand President Bro. F. Jackson, Dist. Pres. Bro. H. Kjar, of No. II District, and Dist. Pres. Bro. Fisher, of No. 29 District, paid an official visit and were accorded full Druidic honours. Officers and members of Makino, Acorn, Horowhenua, Pahiatua, Manawatu, Lind, Shannon and Hawera lodges also paid official visits and received a hearty welcome and musical honours. Invitations to attend installation ceremonies at Lind and Acorn Lodges were received and it was decided to pay an official visit on each occasion. The half-yearly balance sheet and auditor’s report were received and adopted. P.A. Bro. Lowndes reported on the arrangements made by the U.F.S. Council tor the annual picnic to be held at the Fitzherbert Bridge. The Oroua members voted on the election for District President of No. 11 District, between P.A.’s Bros A. F. Jackson and Lowndes, of Oroua, and P. A. Bro. Hughes, of Acorn, D.P. Bro. Kjar being the returning officer. D.P. Bro. Kjar, assisted by P.D.P. Bro. Pascoe as M.G., installed the following ’members into the various lodge chairs : A.D., Sis. M. Lennox; ALA., Bro. McKenzie; secretary, Bro. Mowett; treasurer, Bro. Elsmore; M. sec., Bro. Lowndes; J.P.A., Bro. Gold; 1.G., Bro. Chatfield;. 0.G., Bro. Rice'; A.D.B.’s, Bro. AYaugh and Sis. Kraus; ALA.B.’s, Bro. Grigg and Sis. AVilkinson; pianiste, Sis. Wilson. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the D.P. for the able manner in which he carried out his duties. A vote of thanks to the visitors, some of whom had travelled a long distance, was carried by acclamation. The visitors, in responding, congratulated the newlyinstalled officers on having attained office and extended the season’s greetings to all present. P.S. Bro. Mewett addressed the meeting and outlined the proposed programme for the coming jubilee and Grand Lodge entertainment. G.P. Bro. Jackson also addressed the members and returned thanks on behalf of the Grand Lodge executive for the welcome extendted him. He also congratulated all present on the large attendance, especially the large number of past officers. The G.Pres. also spoke on the working of the Grand Lodge executive and the financial position 0 f the various Grand Lodge funds. After the closing of lodge the floor was cleared and dancing was soon indulged in by. a happy throng, to the well regulated music of an orchestra. Bro. Hegg, of Levin, rendered items on a mandolin guitar and received applause, Bro. C. Lloyd played extra dance music. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Sis. Gold and partner. Supper was served by a willing band of helpers. A humorous interlude took place after supper at the presentation of a prize, to P.D.P. Bro. Pascoe. The singing of .“Auld Lang Syne” concluded a very enjoyable evening.
LOYAL MANAWATU LODGE,
The usual fortnightly meeting of - Loyal Manawatu Lodge was held last night, when N.G. Bro. Bradley presided over a Targe attendance of members. The sick visitors’ report showed that members in hospital were doing well. P.G. Bro. Farrer reported on a visit to Wellington when all the members had an enjoyable week-end. A vote of thanks was passed to the committee responsible for tiro arrangements. The special committee set up recommended that a juvenile lodge be opened in connection with Loyal Manawatu. The recommendations of the committee were adopted. The District Grand Master, Bro. H. J. Fowler, was welcomed and responded in the usual way. Visitors from Loyal Foxton Loyal Marton Loyal Bulls and Loyal Mangatainoka were also welcomed and responded. The report of the delegates to tho Friendly Societies Council was received, when it was announced that a combined picnic would be held on January 2 over the Manawatu river bridge at Fitzherbert. It was arranged that the same two brothers act as Father Christmas as in previous years. - . . . The officers as elected wero duly installed by P.G. Bro. Clark, lecture master, for the ensuing term. Bro. Johnstone was installed by the N.G. as Warden; Bro. Bradley as 1.P.N.G.; PGr Bro. Da wick as Lecture Master bv P G Bro. Sweetman. P.D.G.M. Bro T. Bruce addressed the newlyinstalled officers on the work that was expected of them during their terms of office. The newly installed officer thanked the members for _ their confidence.
COURT MANAWATU, A.O.F.
The usual fortnightly meeting of Court Manawatu, A.0.F., was held on Monday evening, when C.R. Bro. Hancock presided over a fair attendance. Owing to the death of the late Bro. P. Stevens, the Court room was draped and a motion of sympathy was carried in silence. The late brother had been a member for a long period and during the last five years had been frequently visited by the visitors to the sick. In his passing the Court had lost another of its pioneer members. The Woodwards reported on other sick, members and stated that all wore progressing favourably, and sick pay on their behalf was passed for payment. The nomination of officers for the ensuing term resulted as follows: C.lt., Bro. Vivian; S.C.R., Bro. Lord; treasurer, Bro. Fletcher; secretary, Bro. Edwards; S W., Bro. Mudgway; J.W., Bro. Smith; 5.8., Bro. Freeman; M. Sec., P.C.R.’s, Bros. Rosanoski and Hotgerson; Hospital Association, P.C.R. Bro. Burns; Dispensary Board, P.C.R.’s Bros. Burns and Holgerson.
; The election takes place at the next meeting An invitation was accepted to attend an anniversary social of Court l’rido of Dannevirke, when several brothers intend making the trip. A Christmas greoting was received from various Courts and members. At the conclusion of the meeting, a committee meeting was held to finalise tho arrangements for the Christmas tree function, which is to be held at a later date. It was reported that toys, etc., had been purchased locally and by the kind offer of Mr Just a tree had been secured, and all arrangements pointed to the staging of a successful function, the final arrangements of which were left in the hands of P.C.R.’s Bros. Rosanoski and Burns.
