OUTBREAK OF DIPHTHERIA.

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Dec. 9. As the result of an outbreak of diphtheria., there are nine children in the Auckland Hospital, and one died this morning. Most of the patients are from Papakura, and the chairman of the School Committed, who is also a the Hospital Board, has closed the infant department. This action he took after the Health Department had refused to recommend its dosing.

The medical officer of health said today that there was no real cause for anxiety and it was preferable to have the children at school under close observation rather than scattered in their homes.

The Education Board, following the advice of the health authorities, have requested the chairman to reopen the infant department.
