A WHITE ELEPHANT.
DISCOVERY IN SOUTH INDIA. “Don’t shoot it,” is the urgent instruction of the Travancore (Madras) Government to Forestry Department officials following reports that a white elephant has been seen in the high ranges. The superintendent of the zoo is overjoyed at the prospect of adding such a rare specimen to his collection. The Government has therefore instructed officers concerned to take every precaution to save the white elephant jf reports of its existence are proved ti uc. With many of the natives, too, the beast is regarded as an omen of good fortune and its preservation will be received with groat satisfaction.
