WOODVILLE, Dec. 7.
Air and Airs D. AI. Alclnfcosh, of Hastings, accompanied by All's A. 11. Vile, were visitors to Woodvillc to-day. Mr P. Davidson, wbo visited Ids parents, Rev. and Mrs G. W. Davidson, during the week-end, has returned to Hastings. Aliss M. Alules .(Victoria College) and Mr C. Mules (Otago University) are home on vacation. With Air.Alules is Mr B. Lines, of Gisborne, a fellow-student at Olago University. The anniversary of the Woodville Alellio. dist Sunday School was brought to a successful conclusion by a scholars’ entertainment on Alonday evening, when the Church was well filled by an interested and enthusiastic audience. The anniversary has been a record success, and tho Sunday School staff are to bo congratulated upon the programmes submitted and the hearty co-operation shown by tlie scholars, the choir members, and the young peoples’ Bible Classes. Tho Woodville primary school cricket team defeated a combined Dannevirko team at the Recreation ground yesterday afternoon by 41 runs in tlie first innings. Woodville, batting first, made 87, the principal scorers being AfrXeil (26), Walker (25), and R. Vowell (12). Kor the visiting team Edwards, Wilson, Thompson and Redder shared tho bowling honours. Dannevirko scored 46, Wilson (12) being the only one to secure double figures. Vowell, Brassey and Bird bowled well for Woodville. With only forty minutes to go, each side batted for twenty minutes, and wickets fell fast. Woodville scored 21 for 8 wickets (Bird 13), Wilson securing four of tho wickets. Dannevirko made 37 for 9 (Wilson 19). Vowell took 5 wickets and Brassey 3. There was a fair attendance at the monthly mooting of the .Women’s Institute held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday after-' noon. Airs Nixon (president) occupied the chair. Aire Rofe, delegate to the recent council meeting, gave a very comprehensive report of the events of that gathering, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. There was a good response to the roll call for “Handy Hints,” and numerous useful ideas were exchanged. A lint-making competition caused amusement, and the judges, Aleedamcfl Duko and Poulton, awarded the prize to Airs W. Beagloy. There was a competition for the best nrliclo which had been the subject of a demonstration during the year. This was decided by popular vote, the winner being Aliss J. Beattie, and the article a beautifully made pair of suede gloves. Handsome rugs were prominent in a display of work which had been done by members during the current year, and the articles which had been sent by Woodville members to tlie recent exhibition bold in Wellington were also on view. Airs Drager and Aliss J. Beattie were in charge of a sales stall. An appeal was made for contributions towards a Christmas hamper to be sent to the women’s and children’s wards of the Porirna Hospital. During the afternoon Alaider R. Boyd sang a AJaori song very pleasingly, accompanied by his sister, Afiss Jessie Boyd. Tho hostesses, Alcsdnmes Whittington. J. Horne. Simpson and helpers, served afternoon tea. and the meeting concluded with the ringing of the National Anthem.
