There were over 30 local candidates for the matriculation examination, which opened in the Lyceum Hall with Airs C. E. Alellsop, M.A., and Air K. Wilson, 8.A., acting as supervisors.
The introduction of a letter, -parcel and book weighing machine into the colony’s post offices was expected to facilitate the work of the postal officials.
Henry Lawson, the poet, fell 90 feet from the cliffs at Alanly, Sydney, breaking an ankle and injuring his head. •
The largest fire for many years occurred at Napier, where several buildings, insured for about £2OOO, were destroyed. A paint shop assisted in the spread of tho flames. The Premier of Quebec refused the offer of an Anglo-American syndicate to purchase 25,000,000 acres of virgin agricultural land for £8,000,000.
