PAHIATUA.
.(From Our Own Correspondent.) PAHIATUA, Dec. 7. Tlie half-yearly meeting of the Loyal Mangatainokn, Lodge M.U., 1.0.0. F., was held recently, Bro. A. E. South. N.G., presiding over a good attendance. Accounts totalling £5 Os 6d wore passed for payment. Three new members who joined the order were welcomed into tlio lodge. The M.C.'s ..were P.G.’s Bro. L. W. Kitchen and F. .1. Martin. Tho officers for the coming torm were then installed in their respective offices by P.G. Bro. R. Ycwcn. After the lodge closed the N.G. and V.G., Bros. W. J. Fcascy and I. Algie entertained tho members at supper. The weather yesterday was all that could bo desired by followers of outdoor sport, and tho tennis courts and bowling green were well patronised. Some interesting friendly games of tennis were played by the Tennis Club, tho members of which are getting ready for the annual tournament which takes place early in tho Now Year. The Bowling Club members also had a good afternoon and some good games were witnessed. An added attraction at tho bowling green was a match for the Takaro Cup, hold by Pahiatua. Tho challengers wore a rink from tho Ekctahuna Bowling Club, and, although .beaten wero not disgraced, as the Pahiatua Cluh’s rink holding the cup have played no fewer than 12 games and aro still unbeaten. The scores in tho game were Pahiatua (Murphy, Petersen, Kershaw, Hodd, skip) 22; Ekctahuna (McNab, Carrad, Hornblow, McKenzie, skip) 12. The quarterly mooting of tho Firo Board was held on Tuesday afternoon, tho members present being Messrs G. Hodd (chairman), A. Ross, A. W. Parton and J Wesney. Leave of absence was granted Mr W. H. Murch. Tho finances of the board wore stated to be in a much better position than they were 12 months ago. the credit balance being £136 as against £lO7. The bell tower had heen raised, and members of the board spoke in different terms whether it was an improvement or not ns to the sound of tho bell being heard at a distance. At a recent meeting of the Pahiatua A. and P. Association, Mr F. W. Bibby, Mangahno, was elected a member. Tho many friends of Mr W. Cornford will bo pleased to hear that ho is showing signs of improvement after his recent illness A large meeting of all interested in Carnival Week was held Tuesday evening tho chairman of tho committee, Mr W. R Richardson, presiding in the chair, wlien further arrangements wore mado, In addition to the two cycle races to bo held a 100 yards foot race has been included. It was expected that four brigades would take part in the lire brigade events. Mr D H. Cook, of the firm of C. M. Ross and Co., Palmerston North, is to act as judgo in the window display.
