FREEZING DISPUTE.

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. 8. A message has been received by the Wellington freezing companies from the management of one of the Gisborne district companies that the strike has been declared off in that area as from last Tuesday, and about 30 slaughtermen have applied for their hooks. Only five can be absorbed at once.

Locally a reporter was told tlftit there is no change in the freezing situation and that the strike is still on, that the companies have been holding off, hoping for a speedy ending of the dispute, and not being desirous of dispossessing the regular slaughtermen of their positions by engaging a large number of outside workers for it is felt that the majority of the union members are anxious to get back to work.
